Italcanna Gladiator 6/0

The Gladiator reel was born from the vision and design of expert technician Sergio Riccò, who was born in Modena but emigrated to Venezuela at a young age.
After returning to Italy at the end of the 1960s, his passion for the sea, combined with his experience in deep-sea fishing in Venezuela, led him—given the lack of specific Big Game products at the time—to design and build the Gladiator reel.

The Gladiator reel was born from the vision and design of expert technician Sergio Riccò, who was born in Modena but emigrated to Venezuela at a young age.
After returning to Italy at the end of the 1960s, his passion for the sea, combined with his experience in deep-sea fishing in Venezuela, led him—given the lack of specific Big Game products at the time—to design and build the Gladiator reel.
After a few years of testing (followed by patent application no. 31039) and excellent practical results, production of the Gladiator began with the support of other collaborators.
Some time later, Mr. Riccò decided to contact Carlo D’Olivo, president of Italcanna, to improve the commercial distribution of the product, and shortly thereafter, in the 1970s, Mr. D’Olivo personally joined the Gladiator company, later taking it over completely a few years after the passing of his friend Sergio.
For all these years, the Gladiator company has produced highly specialized equipment for deep-sea fishing, such as guides, handles, etc.
Over time, the Gladiator has always distinguished itself for its simplicity of operation and elegance, and it was the first reel in the world with an electric contact bite alarm (it could trigger the onboard siren or other electric devices - 1st prize Spoga Köln 1979 - Germany).
In subsequent years, due to high product demand, production agreements were also made with other companies, which further improved the quality level.
The GLADIATOR reel is the perfect match for Italcanna rods, and together they have won numerous Italian, European, and World championships over the years (as shown in the news area), as well as several catch records.
Technique, experience, and a deep passion for sea fishing are therefore the foundation of the Gladiator reel, which is now made of anti-corrosion alloy and stainless steel (on high-speed bearings) and stands as a true market strength for its lightness, performance, and reliability.
Every single computer-designed component is manufactured on high-precision machining centers, and by using it, you will appreciate the innovative lever anti-reverse system (via freewheel) and the easy adjustment of a carbon drag guided by a cam that prevents errors due to overtightening or bird's nests caused by the total release of the spool.
The unique ergonomic, off-center handle made of reinforced ABS not only allows for a better grip but also makes it easier to hold because it is always vertical, in addition to transmitting more power to the axle.
The elegance of the nickel/anticorodal contrasts is enhanced by laser engravings that do not fade or wear away over time.
